Live to Rescue

Live to Rescue is one of the most effective animal rescue centres in the Himalayas. Located in Ladakh, India and in Druk Amitabha Mountain, Nepal, the centres provides warmth, care, food and shelter to more than 600 animals and have received international admiration for their work.

In the cold desert of Ladakh, scarcity of food and water along with extreme temperatures has been deadly for the growing stray dog population. To provide a loving shelter for the animals and preventing death by starvation, the Live to Rescue centre was founded in 2008. In Nepal, the Kung Fu Nuns witnessed stray and injured animals being left to die in and around Kathmandu. The nuns decided to give refuge to helpless animals in their nunnery and take care of all their medical needs.

Over the last few years, rapid rise in tourism in Ladakh and Nepal resulted in animal accidents due to reckless driving across highways. Live to Rescue sprang into action with an emergency response team – a 24*7 mobile ambulance and an on call veterinarian to provide medical care. To date, the centres have treated hundreds of injured animals including surgery for high-risk cases.

Live to Rescue mobilizes supporters across the world to adopt these adorable animals into loving homes.

Today, the summers are getting warmer and winters colder in Ladakh and Nepal due to global warming. To protect the animals from freezing Himalayan winters, Live to Rescue aims to construct an insulated shelter to protect the animals from the harsh climate.
